At the heart of Keith Kreeger Studios is a wish for my work to live its life bringing people together around a table. The experiences shared through my work are what keep my small studio team and me pushing to make the next kiln load of pots.
The unknowns of the COVID-19 spread mean that we need to do everything we can to protect each other and our loved ones. The only thing we do know is that we should all reduce non-essential social contact for the near future. I have made the difficult decision to close the studio and showroom to the public for the next two weeks. While I struggled to make this decision, in the end it was quite simple. I have done so because the health and safety of my team is more important than any object we will ever make.
We are a small team, and while our risks may seem low, we must be responsible in this moment. For us, that means taking a break from the studio. My hope is that by acting now, we can get back to making things for you all sooner rather than later.
Every person on our team will be compensated as if they have worked a typical studio shift from Monday 3/16 through Friday 3/27. Without knowing how the future looks, my hope is that we can resume studio work on Monday, March 30.
While the showroom and studio will be closed to the public, I will be checking in when possible. I plan on staying connected through my social and digital channels. Our website is always there. I also urge you to support the small businesses that support mine.
The food and beverage industry, which we are honored to work closely with, is going to be hit particularly hard. Many will be shifting to a take-out model to survive. Your patronage will help. Purchasing a gift card directly from your favorite restaurant to use in the future will also help. If you’re willing and able to support directly, our friends at the Southern Smoke Foundation have an emergency fund that supports businesses and workers affected. You can donate either to their Austin Relief Fund or their Emergency Relief Fund here.
If you have any questions, please email me at email@example.com. I know that you all will continue to follow the guidelines from the health experts, and I trust that you will take care of yourselves during these strange times. Be with your nearest and dearest. Stay safe, stay healthy, stay hopeful, and most importantly—please do what you can to support your community.
